Redesigning Leftover Spaces, Foksal Quarter

The Foksal Quarter is located near the centre of Warsaw, next to the most popular commercial and recreational streets. The area is completely devastated and unpleasent but it has a huge potential. It is sad that we have such places in Warsaw and no one takes care of them, even though they could easily become the most attractive public spaces just next to the famous Nowy Swiat street.

The main idea of the poject was to connect the Nowy Swiat street with the park at the east side of the quarter. It would create a new commercial alley linking the acpects of the street and the park. Thus, I created a layered architectural structure dividing the alley into several different paths of exploring the new space. The structure contains malls, offices and open public squares linked in one chain between the street and the park. As we step inside, we see the complex structure of the building opens and closes, creating smaller and bigger holes of public spaces with places to sit and rest. Above the main path and the ground floor, there is a green alley connected with the first floor through elevators and ramps. This area is more recreational and has most of its functions linked to food and drink. Beneath the whole structure, I designed an underground car park.
